Thus, our research puzzle is based on this paradox. The assessment of the old person’s health situation at their home lacks an understanding of the context, which is necessary in order to identify the combination of factors that lead to improving the autonomy of elderly people in their activities of daily living. It is therefore necessary to understand that the promotion of the old person’s ability to self-care is not only affected by individual or
interpersonal factors, but it also depends on social, structural and context factors. This article aims to review the literature in order to identify the fundamental factors that influence the promotion of self-care in the activities of daily living of the old person at home.
The review question is: “What are the factors that promote self-care in the activities of daily living of an old person at home”. We selected the five scientific journals with the highest impact factor in the nursing and geriatric area (Ageing & Society; European Journal of Ageing, Geriatric Nursing, International Journal of Nursing, BMC Geriatrics). We screened all articles with original content between the years 2005 and 2015. In addition to this, the method of Snowball review was also put forward, which led to complementary results. 2889 articles were found, of which 2680 were excluded after reading the titles and abstracts. 206 articles were selected for full reading, of which 77 were excluded according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, language and repetition of articles. Thus 129 articles were selected for a systematic review of the literature. Based on the analysis of the articles, the following factors were identified: intrapersonal factors; interpersonal factors; context factors.
ER -
