Quality of life and lifestyle of the hypertensive person

Abstract

Background: The assessment of the quality of life is fundamental to understand the impact of arterial hypertension.

Objectives: Characterize the profile of the hypertensive population of an outpatient central hospital, investigate the influence of lifestyle on quality of life related to health.

Methodology: quantitative, descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional, with a sample of 105 users. The data collection instruments include the Mini Questionnaire of Quality of Life (MINICHAL) and Fantastic Lifestyle (EVF).

Results: We found that the perception of quality of life in somatic dimension, is influenced by lifestyles related to family and friends, nutrition, sleep and stress, health and sexual behaviors and by smoking. Relative to the mental component, we found predictors, particularly, family and friends, sleep and stress, introspection, health and sexual behaviors and alcohol consumption.

Conclusion: It is considered that this study provides useful information to increase the effectiveness of prevention and control of cardiovascular risk factors programs.
