1. Editorial Policy

1.1 Peer review policy

Pensar Enfermagem operates under a double-blind (reviewer doesn't know the identity of the author, and vice-versa).

In-house submissions, i.e. papers authored by members of ESEL, Editors or Editorial Board members of the title, will be sent to reviewer’s unaffiliated with the author or institution and monitored carefully to ensure there is no peer review bias.

This journal is committed to ensuring integrity in the peer review process. Accordingly, we expect all peer reviewers to comply with COPE’s Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers, including respecting the confidentiality of peer review and not revealing any details of a manuscript or communications related to it, during or after the peer review process, beyond those that are released by the journal.

1.2 Editorial Process

Pensar Enfermagem is committed to ensuring integrity and transparency along the editorial  process. Please, see our editorial flow.

Editorial Procedures and Peer-Review description

Initial Checks

All submitted manuscripts received by the Editorial Office will be checked to determine whether they are properly prepared and whether they follow the ethical policies of the journal. Manuscripts that do not fit the journal's ethics policy or do not meet the standards of the journal will be returned to the authors for revision and resubmission.

After these checks, the manuscript goes to Editor-in-chef/Adjunct editors to determine whether the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and whether it is scientifically sound. No judgment on the potential impact of the work will be made at this stage. Reject decisions at this stage will be verified by the Editor-in-Chief.

Peer-Review

Once a manuscript passes the initial checks, it will be assigned to at least two independent experts for peer-review. A double-blind review is applied, where authors' identities are unknown to reviewers. Peer review comments are confidential.

In the case of regular submissions, Editor-in-chef will invite experts. These experts may also include Editorial Board Members as Associated editors of the Pensar Enfermagem Journal.  Reviewers should not have published with any of the co-authors during the past three years and should not currently work with co-authors.

Editorial Decision and Revision

All the articles published in Pensar Enfermagem Journal go through the peer-review process and receive at least two reviews. The Editor-in-chef/Adjunct editors will communicate the decision, which will be one of the following:

  • Accepted: The paper is accepted, without revision.
  • Minor Revisions: The paper is in principle accepted after revision based on the reviewer’s comments. Authors are given 7 days for minor revisions.
  • Major Revisions: The acceptance of the manuscript would depend on the revisions. A maximum of two rounds of major revision per manuscript is normally provided. Authors will be asked to resubmit the revised paper within a 14 days, and the revised version will be returned to the reviewer for further comments.
  • Reject: The article has serious flaws, and/or makes no original significant contribution. If additional experiments are needed to support the conclusions, the manuscript will be rejected, and the authors will be encouraged to re-submit the paper once further experiments have been conducted.

All reviewer comments should be responded to in a point-by-point fashion. Where the authors disagree with a reviewer, they must provide a clear response (Rebuttal letter).

Once the paper is accepted the librarian will review the Vancouver norms. Then the authors will be contacted to carry out the translation / language revision of the article. The article returns to the Editorial Office to continue the editing processes. After that, it goes back to the authors for a final review. Authors are given 4 days for final revisions. After final adjustments on editing processes, the article will be published in online-rolling-pass.

1.3 Authorship

Pensar Enfermagem recommends that, from the perspective of attribution of accountability, attribution of credit for intellectual work and to ensure transparency, authors follow the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) based on the following 4 criteria:

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
  2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  3. Final approval of the version to be published; AND
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

The journal accepts articles by up to a maximum of 7 authors. It is up to the submitting author to present to the Editor-in-Chief the need and justification for including more authors.  If it is a review article it must have at least two authors.

1.4 Acknowledgments

Anybody who contributes without meeting the 4 criteria should be listed in an  acknowledgments section . This usually  happens with purely technical contributions, business affiliation or for some specific contribution.

Please supply any personal acknowledgements only at the Title Page, separately to the main text to facilitate anonymous peer review.

1.5  Conflicts of interest and Funding

Conflicts of interest and Funding sources should be disclosed.

In line with the Declaration of Helsinki 1975, revised Hong Kong 1989, we encourage authors to register their clinical trials (at Home - ClinicalTrials.gov) or other suitable databases identified by the ICMJE. If your trial has been registered, please state this on the Title Page.

4.1 - ORCID

ORCID provides a unique digital identifier that distinguishes researchers from every other researcher, even those who share the same name. It supports  automated linkages between researchers and their professional activities, ensuring that their work is recognized.

The collection of ORCID iDs from corresponding authors is now part of the submission process on Pensar Enfermagem. If you already have an ORCID iD you will be asked to associate that to your submission during the online submission process. We also strongly encourage all co-authors to link their ORCID ID to their accounts. Your ORCID iD will become part of your accepted publication’s metadata, making your work attributable to you and only you.

Many systems ask for your ORCID iD in order to create a link between you and your research institutions and results. With your ORCID iD and giving organizations permission to update their registration whenever they request it, you can be credited for your work and reduce the time spent on future registration updates.

If you do not already have an ORCID iD please follow this link to create one and get all the information. https://orcid.org/
